About
Baltimore has always had light. We're here to amplify it.
Celebrating the people, stories, ideas and organizations making Baltimore brighter.
Our mission
Baltimore is a city of makers, teachers, organizers, artists and neighbors who show up for each other every day. Most of that never makes the headlines. Illuminate Baltimore exists to point a light at it: the good news, the solutions, the people behind them.
We do that two ways. The Light Feed gathers positive and problem-solving Baltimore stories from local outlets and sends readers straight to the journalists who wrote them. Share Your Light asks Baltimoreans one question, on Instagram and in their own words: How do you share your light? Anyone can nominate the next person.
How The Light Feed works
Automated
A scheduled job checks the public RSS feeds and homepages of Baltimore news outlets throughout the day.
AI-scored
Each headline is scored by an AI model for positivity, Baltimore relevance and whether it describes a solution. Only stories that clear the bar are published. Nothing is rewritten and nothing is invented.
Headline + link only
We show the headline, the outlet's name, a category and (when the outlet provides one) its thumbnail. Every click goes to the original publisher. We never host or reproduce articles.
Publishers can opt out
Don't want your outlet included? Email team@majesticlight.org and we'll remove it within two business days.
Our bot
When we check a site, our crawler identifies itself as IlluminateBaltimoreBot with this user agent:
IlluminateBaltimoreBot/1.0 (+https://illuminatebaltimore.com/about#bot; team@majesticlight.org)
It reads public feeds and pages only, respects robots.txt, and never logs in, bypasses paywalls or stores article text.
Where the stories come from
The Light Feed currently reads from these Baltimore outlets. All credit, and every click, goes to them.
